Long-distance move from Alberta to Ontario

Nightmare Experience.

This company is a complete joke. When you google moving companies be very cautious. We were given a very low quote to move our 3 bedroom house from Alberta to Ontario. We were sceptical due to the very low quote of 1200. Very soon we received emails from a dozen other companies with the same quote. We assumed if a dozen other companies are giving us the same quote it must be correct.
Fast forward to the moving day. 3 days in a row they were no shows. Finally they ended up showing at 7:00pm and didn't leave our home until 12:30am!! I have never heard of a moving company working this late. In fact they showed up in a semi that has "Landmark" written on the truck and the contract I signed was from Green Movers. The movers were grumpy, had NO knowledge of the company. They even told me they had never heard of Ryder Moving. I was super uncomfortable.
The next day at 8:30 am I received a call from their "head office" that our belongings had arrived in Toronto and I had to pay 4500. I said that is impossible and told her the truck only left my house 8 hours ago and it was a 35 hour drive. I said there is no way those guys could have made that drive. She said oh right.. they took it to CP rail and that's how it got here so quick, again I said it not possible and you also quoted me 1200!! not 4500!! She said if I didn't pay right now that they would no longer be responsible for what happened to my belongings. I asked her if that was a threat, she said no threat but we are no longer responsible if something happens to happen to them. Meanwhile I am worrying about getting myself across the country and worried my things are going to be destroyed. While this is happening I am watching the news and low and behold they did this to another person from out my neck of the woods. They hold your things hostage. I got in contact with her, she had been contacted by the police who informed her they were under investigation. The members were actually arrested!! They were also warned these men may be gang related and to be cautious. We heard they had relations to a turkish mafia. This sounds all made up but it if you ever had to deal with these criminals you would understand it is much closer to the truth then you would think. They held our things hostage and continued to threaten us. We decided to go to the address on the contract on young street in Toronto. Surprise Surprise is was a FAKE ADDRESS and the security guard working in the building said we were not the first ones to show up looking for this company. Long story short we ended up paying the price and got all of our things back in good condition but this was an experience from a nightmare. One of those experiences you only read about. STAY AWAY from them. Pay the extra money for a reputable company. It will be worth it. Oh and PS: we were living in an empty house sleeping on the floor at our new house for over 2 weeks.

Cross Canada Move.

Similar to those posted before me found Ryder Moving and Storage through all Canada Movers website after receiving quotes from multiple companies via email. Ryder had a low quote and I recognized the name so decided to go with them. After pleasant and professional phone call from "Matthew" based out of Calgary my 200$ deposit was taken and my 3 day move period (Wed-Thur-Fri)was set (they say you will receive a 24 hour notice). fast forward to the end of the month everything packed up and ready to move and still have not heard from them 24h before the final day of the move period. After several emails to "Matthew" get a call from the dispatcher (in Ontario) at 6pm stating the truck was too full and couldn't get our belongings. However there was a truck that could be available Sat-Sun-Mon to pick up our belongings or I could get refund back. Since we already had our move set accepted the new timeline. Afternoon of now the 6th day of the original 3 day move period (Sun) and have spent several hours on the phone and emailing "Matthew" attempting to find out if a truck is coming. Finally at 8pm the dispatcher from Ontario calls me to tell me the truck had more deliveries then anticipated and may be able to make it wednesday or thursday or I can get my deposit back. I instantly ask to get my deposit back which the dispatcher states occurs on fridays in accounting and will go back on my card in 5-10 business days. It has now been 2 months since then and still no deposit. Countless calls to Matthew, the dispatcher and Accounting and no luck. Matthew says he will email accounting and it shouldn't take long. Accounting says shipment status is "in transit" or after putting me on hold for 30 minutes hangs up. Hundreds of calls with 90% getting voicemail. When I do get through get put on hold then hung up on or have my calls not returned. This company is a complete SCAM. Do not move with this company. So glad I didn't actually have items move with them or get extorted for more money like others.

Very Satisfying.

My husband and I purchased a house in Whitby last month and were looking around for quotes to get an idea on how much it would cost us for our move with a moving service and with a rental service like U-haul.

I put up my information on a website (which I thought was one moving company, to get a quote a couple of weeks ahead of time, but it turns out they just give your information to like, a 100 moving companies or so) and I was bombarded with calls and emails.

After getting a couple of quotes from different companies and comparing the ups and downs of the two different options we had (using a moving service or doing it ourselves) we went with a moving service and chose Ryder out of a couple of other choices like Selective, El cheapo, Landmark.

Ryder stood out because unlike other quotes we got Ryder split there costs up which stood out to us because it was more upfront on what we could expect in the end. They had a per hour rate with labour and travel, and had a separate section with a flat rate for fuel cost, Which was $150.00. The sales agent Aaron was also very good with putting up with us LOL because I would call him non stop everyday just to ask questions on how everything was going to work hah (I was very stressed because we have 2 kids and this is our first house and everything financial wise was very tight too) Anyways he was always very kind and gave answers to questions im sure I asked him atleast 30 times.

Fast forward to moving day which was just 3 days ago, the movers came a little late which had me worried because Im a worrier XD, - My husband says I just need a reason to be worried and I'll get worked up on it like Trump on a Mexican.

Anyways they showed up and it was two big guys that looked like Hells Angels, Steven Tyler and Ben Kingsley had kids.. But these guys were pretty nice.

They loaded everything we told em to and didn't damage anything, but a little scratch on my beds headboard - which my husband and I waved off because it was very little and wouldn't show after the bed was assembled.

The move took almost 9 hours, but finally finished in time for dinner. We payed them in cash, like we agreed and they left finishing the move.

Over all the experince was very satisfying, the only thing that prevents a 5 star is they came a little later then the time agreed upon and actually tried charging my husband for the time they were on lunch. They took an hour. after a quick call to Aaron they didn't say anything to us haha XD

I would recommend them to others, they provide a very good service for a reasonable price. in total we paid $940.00.

Long-distance move from Saskatchewan to British Columbia

Failed pick up, deposit not returned & terrible service.

Note that this is a review for a provincial move not an international move. I was unable to correct the designation to that of a provincial move.

REVIEW
A score of 1 out of 5 is too generous. It should be a -100. Look after your blood pressure and prevent yourself from the added stress on top of the stress of the move itself and DO NOT GO with this company. I went with them as there were no reviews about them in September when I booked, so I figured 'no review' meant 'ok company'. I was proven wrong. Once they have your deposit, you are on your own. I was given a 2 day window, between Dec 6th-8th for pick up from Saskatoon for delivery in B.C.The driver/movers never showed up. When I called, I was given a number to call Dispatch. No one picked up and to top it off, their mailbox was full so I couldn't even leave a message. In the time span of the window period and a few days after, I was subjected to these ping-ponging from Ryder Moving and Storage to Dispatch with the same result each time. I was given excuses, I.e. the truck broke down and the driver would come Dec 9th or 10th. Not only did he never come, but I received NO communication from the company itself. I have since called multiple times to try to get my deposit back and the person who said he was the manager, Alex, informed me that it was being processed. When I asked for confirmation of this via email, he said he would ask Aaron Gunn, who took my booking to respond to the email I sent requesting for this. Four follow up phone calls later and still no email confirmation of refund. By this time, I was really upset and called the company again on 403-470-5772, which is forever engaged and even if you leave messages, no one returns the call (probably because they want to avoid you unless of course, it's to take your deposit). I spoke to someone called Kylie this time who was extremely rude and I quote ' M'am, I am only the booking agent. I do not do refund'. I was told the accountant was only available on Fridays and was handling a lot of refunds. No surprise about the latter considering my experience. They're more than happy to take your money but do not have the decency to return your money in a timely manner for services NOT rendered. I am still waiting for the refund as I write. When I threatened to call the police, Kylie's response was 'Do what you want'. I did call Calgary Police and was advised to file a complaint at the Court House as this is a civil case. As there is added cost to file not to mention time involved, I decided not to waste more of my time and energy.

As of today, January 3rd, my deposit of $100 has still not been returned. The Moving Industry should be regulated and there should be police involvement when moving companies like this deal fraudulently with their customers.

Long-distance move from Alberta to Saskatchewan

Terrible service. BEWARE.

Usually I'm not one to do these reviews, but I felt the need to warn others of Ryder Moving and there unwillingness to accommodate us and what they put us through. When my boyfriend and I found out we would be moving provinces I started looking into moving companies, I sent a few emails and Ryder moving was one that replied. There services were cheap but they didn't have many reviews, we thought we would be in good hands. We called and booked with them about 2 weeks before our move date. We paid our deposit and got a confirmation email about our booking. We were informed that because they were a Canada wide moving company that they had a 3 day window that they would come in and that they would be calling the day before they came to confirm our pick up/move time. (Our move date was the a Thursday and we were told they would be there between the Wednesday to Friday). This is where Ryder Moving began to disappoint. We hadn't heard anything from them on the Tuesdat at noon so we decided to call and find out what time on the movers would be coming. We called their dispatch line multiple times and every time it went to voicemail. When we called the head office in Calgary they had no answers other than they will call you back. When dispatch finally called us back around 4pm they told us they would not be able to move us until the Sunday due to their driver being behind in moves. When moving to a new province for work change of dates isn't an option. We asked if there was anything else they could do as it was already so late in the day and we needed to be moving the next day, all they could offer us was our deposit back.. Which we still are fighting for. STAY CLEAR OF RYDER MOVING AND STORAGE. Unless you have a week or 2 to wait around with no answers and the possibility of not having your things picked up and delivered on time.

BEWARE, same company as Landmark Van Lines/ Green Moving Storage.

BEWARE!

This is the same moving company as landmark van lines/ Green moving and storage. Check out their respective reviews before you use this company!

They are not a moving company at all, but rather APPEAR to be a moving company in order to take possession of your precious goods, so that they can extort you for large sums of money.

Here is a rundown of their scam:
First you will find a website like allcanadamovers.ca where you fill in your information and email address, which is then forwarded to the scammers.

The scammers start calling and emailing you with appealing low rates. There are many nearly identical quotes, to create the appearance of choice, in fact, many if not all of these companies are the same, just with different websites and phone numbers.

The staff members seem accommodating, professional and friendly on the phone, you pay a $100 deposit with your credit card and set up the move.

Some very unprofessional movers show up on the date of your move late in the evening, or even a few days later and cart off your stuff.

Now, the "movers" have your belongings AND your credit card number. They charge your credit card many 1000s of dollars without authorization.

You call in distress, the scammers provide some BS about the excess weight of your items etc. and demand you sign a document authorizing the charges on your credit card (after the fact) and stating you won't dispute the charges. They say if you don't, they will not move your items, they will dispose of them leave them on the side of the road, auction them off etc.

If they do not already have your cc number, they will demand payment, the longer you take the make the payment, the price will go up and up.

In distress, you make the extortion payments and your belongings may or may not show up in various states of disrepair/abuse many days, weeks, or months later.

How do they get away with this? By appearing to move (some) of your items eventually, for enough money, they appear to be a legitimate (if shady) business, and the police or your credit card company will tell you its a contract dispute between you and this "business". In fact, you have been victim to a crime. Please call the police if this happens to you. Be aware, these people are crooks, talking to them on the phone, negotiating, asking to speak to managers etc. will get you nowhere. Once they have your items they know most people will pay up in order to get them back.

Other current aliases of these scammers:

Atlantic Van Lines
Armour Van Lines
Centennial Moving
Green Moving and Storage
Landmark Van Lines
Capital Movers
Provincial Movers
Canadian Moving Systems
Trillium Movers
Kingsway Van Lines
Nexus Express
Logan Moving
and many others!

Note, some will now link to their Better Business Bureau profile. They set up their "business" BBB profile a year or more before they get start taking peoples money, they post a few positive reviews on websites like these, and appear to be in business for a year with no complaints, moving their BBB grade up. Then, they use this profile/name to attract business. Once the bad reviews/complaints come torrenting in, they move on to their new name/alias/phone number.

Long-distance move from Alberta to Ontario

Called Credit Card Dispute Center and got Refund.

They are absolute [EDIT], mind you when I booked with them back in October there were no reviews on them..maybe they are crafty and deleted negative reviews? However they took my money, cancelled the phone number and then didn't show up. I never signed a contract or anything, it was all verbal.

I paid for a service (deposit), then day of pick-up came and they did not come. I had proof I paid for a service and proof they did not show up. Called my credit card dispute center and explained it was a fraudulent charge as they did not provide the service I paid for. Dispute center then went to court for me, showing my proof of payment. Ryder Moving & Storage then had to prove that they did in fact perform the service. They couldn't provide proof of service.

I won the case and got my deposit back from them. :)

Sucks to suck.

Just to prove how dumb they are:
They called me a day after my pick-up date and asked if I still wanted to proceed. I responded with "Yes, of course! I will be waiting with a police officer just to make sure everything is legit."
Matthew B/Robin K. response: "Uhhh why would you do that? I'm not even with the company."
I responded that I did not take this company to be legit, and that they are scammers.
He hung up on me stating "I don't need this"

5 minutes later I get a call from Akmed the 'Driver".
"Hi ma'am you have booked a moving company?"
Me: "Yes"
Akmed: "Can you tell me the name of the company?"
Me: "You are the professional, you should tell me what company you are working for."
Akmed: "Ma'am I am being professional, I'm just the driver and was given your invoice."
Me: "Oh, well I was never given an invoice, can you please tell me details of it, read it aloud for me with a confirmation number and payment details?"
Akmed: "Oh ma'am no I don't have the information, I can't read it."
Me:"you can't read it? You just said you were holding the paper in your hand, if you can't read how do you read street signs and directions? What's your physical address, where exactly are you?"
Akmed: "Oh ma'am I don't know I'm just the driver."
Me: "you're a truck driver and you don't even know where you are?"
Akmed then hung up.

Also reported them to BBB.

Long-distance move from Winnipeg, MB to Mississauga, ON

Pathetic! Scam!

I have no clue why I hired such unprofessional, scammed company! I just came across all these reviews now and I can now understand that it isint only me who became their victim!

This long review is just for the company to look at all the reviews and take an action!!

The saddest part was when they emailed me, with false accusations. Instead of apologizing for the rude behaviour and false language by the truck driver and Patrick, Alex write back to us stating that we used false language and swore at the driver? Seriously!!??

Firstly they don't show up on time. They were a week late then told me they would come on a Tuesday and later didn't show up. Upon callin them again and again Alex told me to call Patrick who is responsible for the operation department. He never answers his call but someone at his office does and always says he's busy. Gives me the drivers number to call and ask myself where he is. Tell me there's a forest fire in B.C which is holding the truck (I believed them and changed my plans accordingly)

And then when they finally arrive!! The driver don't know why is not in the good mood. We had packed the house ourselves and just wanted some antique pieces and mirrors to be packed by them. Which Alex agreed to do for a little fee as called by him "speciality packing."

Driver first parks in the middle of the road, (I lived on a three lane street) when my neighbor tells him to park properly and not in front of his driveway he starts yelling that we shouldn't tell him what to do !!
Even his colleges Murad is shock to see him yelling and speaking on top of his lungs without any reason.

When I show him the antique pieces he starts yelling at me that this isn't his job and he wasn't told to do anything like that??!! He repeatedly said to me that he wouldn't pack and do any special packing for the items and he would do what he always does. If anything breaks sue the company!!

He even threatened me many times that he would leave without loading my stuff!

My kids were getting upset as he was too loud. So I changed the subject (as I really wanted him to take our goods, we were already 10 days late and I had no energy to argue with him) asked him about the forest fire and how was his trip? Upon this I don't know why he got furious and talked so rudely to me that my eldest daughter started shaking. I was like what's wrong with you?

He knew no information about the move, did not know that we had specifically requested special packing and could not even tell us who had contracted him to collect our furniture; which was quite strange!

After he was unable to answer our questions, he started shouting repeatedly that we could just sue the company if something went wrong?!! Hello if you are here we as your clients have a right to talk to you and explain you about fragile items and how to handle few things that we find dear to us. You are not suppose to say that sue the company if anything happens and I will do what I want!! We are paying you guys we don't care you have been rehired by someone. We hired Ryder Moving Company and whom ever comes up we will believe is part of them!!

Coming back to the topic, When I tried to change the topic to calm him and asked him some general questions about BC and the summer season, I found out that he was not the driver I had been in contact with, (I was given the number by Patrick their guy who manages the operations) and in fact this driver had been in Winnipeg for the last 2-3 days, and had not been in BC at all. I am astounded that Alex had been lying to us about the reason for the extended delay, and using the BC fires as an excuse for a 10 day late pick-up.

Even after all this being revealed, we still kept our calm and I contacted my husband - especially as my children were becoming distressed on hearing him yell and scream unnecessarily.

Our happiness at finally having a moving truck arrive at our door has turned into a nightmare and left us distressed.

The most upsetting part, is that after everything we endured, including discussing today's events with Alex personally on the phone - he still turned and put the blame on us.

Shame on you!

Please everyone beware!! They waste your precious time! And by no means anyone is allowed to abuse a client and speak rudely to them!!
It's better to pay a good company a little more and save yourself from all this trouble!

Disastrous Moving Company.

I've never written a review before on the internet, but like everyone else, I felt obliged to do so for the sake of anyone contemplating hiring this moving company, Ryder Moving! DON'T. Worse service ever with any moving company I have ever encountered. On the day they were supposed to pick up my items, 2 hours after they were supposed to arrive, I called them to find out that the truck was still over 10 hours away and would not be at my place till the next day. They never bothered to call me, I HAD to call to find out that they would never show on the agreed upon day. Then, they broke things, they FORGOT a piece of item, which a week later, I still don't have, and will only get apparently in 1 week..they are sure in NO RUSH to get to you your belongings THEY have forgotten. Also, they NEVER used any of the floor protection they so advertised, at NO PLACE (both pick up and delivery) did they use floor protection. They never re-assembled anything they disassembled either. Upon moving my belongings, they broke the thermostat off the wall which now will not work, great in the summer time I tell you, NO A/C, no air, NOT AWESOME AT ALL. They had also told me on the phone (with ALEX) initially that I would only be charged once my belongings safely arrived to my destination. NOT TRUE. the day after my belongings were picked up, I get a call from Green Moving Company, which I had never heard of, who is now telling me they do the accounting for RYDER, and need FULL payment BEFORE they delivered my belongings. JUST RIDICULOUS. I now understand why they want to be paid in full BEFORE they deliver, its because of their MEDIOCRE service. I'm so frustrated with this company right now, and still awaiting for my forgotten belonging to arrive. Oh and also, they used this real cheap tape over some of my belongings that won't come off now. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!! Look elsewhere!!

My worst nightmare came true.

Alex gave me 3 quotes, th highest being for a 3 bedroom house. I was in a one bedroom apartment. I told him that I was a senior on a fixed income, had never had a big out of town move and didn't want any expected charges at the end. The movers were to come Wed. Aug 30 after lunch. I had my car packed and was leaving early Thursday morning. By 2:00 pm, I was in panic mode. I called and was told that the truck broke down and they would come on Friday, Sept. 1. And I was told trucks do break down. Well a telephone call would have been nice. My landlord could have easily charged me another months rent, but I had been there for 23 years. Alex quoted me $2,440 plus a 5% senior discount. There was no fridge, stove, washer, dryer, freezer, couch, no coffee and end tables. I did have two 2 drawer filing cabinets. After sleeping on the floor for 5 nights I got a call that delivery would be at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, Sept. 5 and to have a bank draft ready for $3,472, no credit cards to avoid charges in dispute. I was told I would be refunded and overages. There was a 200 destination fee and $205 packing fee. I had left notes all over but nobody read them, so they brought 2 large area rugs and also my garbage. Weight equals money. My stuff arrived at 5:30 pm. They did put my bed together because I was a senior and a nice lady but told they could have charged me an additional $250 for set up fee. The mirror of my dresser is still not attached, no time and they told me they had done too much already. The next morning I received another email charging me an extra 373.50 more so the total came to $3,845.50. My savings are depleted. I had surgery Sept 21 and could not handle a battle at this time. Alex deserves an academy award for the biggest con job on a senior moving from Sault Ste Marie to London for medical reasons. So much for a quote in writing. Good thing I got rid of my heavy couch a few days ahead of my move. I am happy that I did a big purge and got rid of a lot of stuff. And I hired Ryder but the bills came from Green Moving and Storage. Unbelievable way to start my retirement.
